Guardians of the Galaxy is also the first modern game to feature closed captions matching the quality of those found in movies and TV shows. Players who are deaf or hard of hearing can be more immersed in the game world with "overheard subtitles," resizable subtitles, and closed captions. The game also features cognitive accessibility options, such as the sound focus mode, which lessens all nonessential sounds. It also allows players to extend the objective-reminder timer and keep the objective visible for longer. Guardians of the Galaxy set a new bar in the industry for deaf and hard of hearing accessibility and showed what's possible with inclusive design ideas applied to video games.
@oconnoclast I just think the distinction needs to be made between fans of racing games and car enthusiasts. There's a lot of gamers who enjoy racing games without having a real interest in cars. Forza Horizon, since day one, has always been about building your ideal cars and racing them, with the race classes allowing for a wide variety of cars. For me a lot of the fun has always been centered around building various cars around the various classes and ratings, the races are just something to do with them.
In other words it's always been focused on allowing the players to be creative. Most traditional racing games don't allow for any creativity, and if they do it's just something purely cosmetic like a car livery. The whole attitude behind Forza Horizon harks back to the original Forza series, which has always been focused around being a Gran Turismo competitor, and that series has often had similar arguments made about it as well.
Finally, it should be noted that Forza Horizon 5 received a lot of praise for its accessibility options. The game features support for American Sign Language and British Sign Language, which was specially designed with the help of the disabled community and used in the cinematics. It also includes a game speed change setting that allows players to play at a lower rate, customizable subtitle options, high contrast mode, color blindness mode, text-to-speech, and spoken-to-text features. FH5 plays brilliantly and looks great even on XBOneX.
Its probably the best playing and best feeling racing game I've played. I've had really good fun with it but I can say I would rather have a story that progresses me through it. It almost has the same problem for me that Elder Scrolls and Fallout has, its too open.
But I find I have more fun when it's a little bit more directed of an experience. FH5 is a fantastic game in every regard and I hope it's brining a lot of joy to those who really live it. But I'll keep looking for something a bit more like the first. Playground Games has already confirmed the release of a new map from their upcoming game. This was released mostly to give the users an idea about what to expect from the game.
The Forza Horizon map has already created a lot of interest around the game's release set for November 9, 2021. Developers had confirmed that the game will feature streets and off-road paths of Mexico to race against players from all over the globe. The Forza Horizon Reddit community has also released their thoughts about the new map that has just been released. Known names of the video game racing community like Techophilia and BoomBamCrash have given out positive responses towards this new Forza Horizon Map. Nothing can be concluded about the Forza Horizon 5 Map details with this satellite view picture but it surely is a huge map that will feature biomes, named and unnamed locations, and more. The SteelSeries Stratus Duo is another clever controller; this time it's all about supporting multiple platforms.
As well as connecting to PCs via a 2.4GHz USB dongle, the Stratus Duo can also connect to Bluetooth devices like phones and tablets when a switch is flicked on the back of the unit. Battery life is lower when you're using Bluetooth mode, but given your phone is best-suited for short play sessions, this isn't a massive concern. The Stratus Duo works on both iOS and Android, but it is worth remembering that not all games support gamepads natively. However, for playing Fortnite or an emulated SNES title, the Stratus Duo works great.
While the controller's build quality seems sound and the controls feel accurate, the button layout isn't ideal - I found it tricky to tap the middle buttons without getting tangled up in the thumb sticks. It's also disappointing that the SmartGrip accessory for actually mounting the controller to your phone is a $10/£10 optional add-on - for the price, it really ought to be in the box. The Nacon Rig Pro Compact does exactly what it says on the tin, providing an Xbox-style controller that is more diminutive than the first-party models.
This makes it a better choice for the significant percentage of the world's population that has smaller hands. Even the middle buttons - Menu, Select, Share - have been moved closer to extremities of the controller to make these oft-useful keys easier to press. The Pro Compact feels relatively well made, and unlikely to break, but its light weight makes it almost feel a little hollow despite its robust exterior.
This Nacon controller also comes with Dolby Atmos for Xbox and PC; just install and run the Dolby Atmos app from the Windows or Xbox store with a headset connected to get a free lifetime license (normally $15). There's also a Pro Compact app for both platforms that allows you to customise the button assignments, stick sensitivity, and so on. All in all, it's a convincing package given that it costs less than a standard Xbox controller. @oconnoclast Well first off the racing is all dependent upon how you set it up.
Like if you are just sticking to single player races with the AI in an easy difficulty, it will probably be an easy race for you. This is because you are really meant to upgrade your cars in order to get the most out of these games, if you just want to race cars without having to modify them you are probably better off playing something else. I played heaps to join the hall of fame which entitles you to race online in the weekly Trials which I love.
I feel reaching the hall of fame is the main campaign. After that the Seasonal Challenges are a diverse mix of online and offline and heaps of fun to unlock rare cars. In other words I feel the progression is perfect but it did take me a while to work out how to play the game in a way that makes my experience feel like meaningful progression. Beginning with Forza Horizon 2, each sequel in the Playground Games-developed racing series used the previous title as a fun-filled foundation to build upon, and Forza Horizon 5 is no different. Longtime series fans will still sink hours into Forza Horizon 5, as its varied Mexico setting, ridiculously stuffed modes, and new features make it a game worth returning to on a regular basis. Newcomers, on the other hand, will be floored by the PC game's creative riches.
In short, Forza Horizon remains the best racing game series, and this Editors' Choice entry is yet another example of why it's so beloved. Additionally, the gamepad comes with a Forza Horizon 5 DLC code, and this unlocks one custom-painted car (the 1932 Ford De Luxe Five-Window Coupe), one T-shirt for your in-game avatar, and one custom "dance" emote. I'm not really a fan of hardware-gated features in software, but these are also wimpy cosmetic additions. Many "special edition" gamepads from the likes of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo err on the side of either militaristic gaudiness or understated logos—and those styles can certainly look cool . But I'm a fan of bolder color designs in general, especially with something as inherently whimsical as a controller for a gaming system. Until Microsoft unlocks similarly wild paint and color-variety options on its own Xbox Design Lab system, this head-turning Forza gamepad will have to suffice.
@JayJ seriously 90% of the games I play are racing games. I love cars and Forza H3 is one of my fave games of all time. I still find this game a bit of a grind and not holding my attention. I bought the Forza controller and was really looking forward to it. I'm sure I'll still sink 100+ hours by the end of it. Forza Horizon 5 is a Play Anywhere title, so if you buy it on PC via the Xbox app, you also play it on Xbox with no additional cost.
Microsoft's unified video game platform means that the racer features crossplay between PC and console. A Steam version is available for people who prefer to leverage Valve's game store and launcher. In a nice touch, Forza Horizon 5 features many accessibility options. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was the surprise feel-good game of the year.
Yes, the narrative is light, funny, and well written — but the game's accessibility allows many disabled players to feel good while playing it. Guardians of the Galaxy, in some instances, embraced inclusive design over what can often feel like the Band-Aid version of accessibility settings. Chief among them is the fact that Star Lord's visor mode doubles as high-contrast mode, improving visual accessibility in a foundational, rather than additive, way. The Scuf Instinct and Scuf Instinct Pro are deeply customisable controllers for Xbox consoles and PC.
I opted for a controller with an interesting topographical map theme in blue and gold, matching this with mono-colour face buttons, black sticks, and grey d-pad, shoulder buttons and triggers. There are tons of options here, with eleven elements you can tweak - including less cosmetic changes like ripping out the rumble motors for a lighter gamepad or opting for different shape sticks. (Scuf's earlier Xbox One era Prestige controller has even more colour options - the firm assured me that the Instinct series will have a similar number of options eventually).
The Pro adds rubber grips and four rear buttons - fittingly, features that may prove handy for high-level play but are easily dispensed with to save some money on what is already an expensive proposition. In Forza Horizon 5 create your own expressions of fun with the powerful new EventLab gameplay toolset including custom races, challenges, stunts, and entirely new game modes. Customize your cars in more ways than ever before with new options such as the ability open and close convertible tops, paint brake calipers, and more. Use the new Gift Drops feature to share your custom creations with the community.
Clearly sandbox games like this aren't going to be for everyone. Some people love to have a lot of linearity to their games with the game constantly telling them what to do next. Forza Horizon games always worked as the type of games you play at your own pace. Personally one of the reasons why I have always loved the series so much is how quickly the games open up and allow you to just do your own thing.
Right now I have put in over 100 hours into the game and the map is full of things I haven't done yet. I spend most of my time just upgrading and tuning cars. With Forza Horizon 5, Playground Games gives you even more tools to craft custom festival vibes. The overall gameplay changes aren't quite as radical as in past years, but once the community gets their hands on EventLab, you'll enjoy a steady, fresh supply of new racing content. Plus, the fictionalized Mexico setting is simply awesome, with its varied, eye-catching biomes.
Whether you're a newcomer or a longtime series fan, Forza Horizon 5 has lets you cruise streets, blaze down steep hills, or participate in wacky contents as you unlock cars, character gear, and walled-off areas. We used each of the controllers listed for at least two weeks - and in some cases, years - testing them in games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. We evaluated each gamepad in terms of its suitability for different PC gaming genres, its ease of use and its depth of features. Those who purchased the Premium Edition or Premium Add-ons Bundle on Xbox or PC were granted early access to the game on November 5, ahead of the game's full release date.
The game has seen unprecedented success despite only being available in early access, with almost one million players enjoying Forza Horizon 5 ahead of launch. Well, coming from the "sim racing" side of the spectrum, I never agreed with "greatest racing game ever" declaration that many made. I wouldn't argue that it might be the greatest "arcade racer" of all time.
But, yeah...I personally spend exponentially more time playing other racing games. While Ars Technica is in the loop about a lot of gamepad launches, we mostly look at gamepads that offer significant features and upgrades. If you pine for '90s-era interfaces when loud colors and transparent plastic ruled the gamepad fray, this week's launch of the Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Wireless Controller is for you. Playing Forza Horizon 5 on a phone might not be ideal if you're a more competitive racer.
If I did that while playing on my phone, I don't think I'd keep up. But even machines that exceeded the existing standards of the Horizon 3.0 standard would be able to get dangerous locks and stutters. Fortunately, Playground had the most out of the problems. Yet, till now, even in its delisted state, Forza Horizon 3 still remains somewhat problematic. This situation resurfaced two times longer with Forza Motorsport 7 and thenForza Horizon 4.
Fortunately, the issues became less frequently with each new release. I can see why for this reason, my 12-and-a-half hours ago, I have just been happy with the process. Also the networking issue is known by playground games and they are working on a fix.
It's only happening because in prior games you would only see 12 players on the entire map but in 5 you see significantly more. I don't know the number but I'd guess at least 50 if not more. So once they fix the bug there will be plenty of people and they won't vanish unless they do something like fast travel or quit. @LtSarge Yeah it seems like a lot of people complaining just aren't really the type of people who this game was really made for.
Gamers who don't have much interest in cars will probably get bored quickly, but if you have an interest in cars there's endless fun to be had. A game like Forza could keep spawning random race events with different restrictions and weather….. That would be ace but Forza quickly has 100s of things to do on the map and they keep coming but within 5/6 hours you have so much money and access to pretty much all the fastest cars….
Motivation goes and the grind style Forzathon seasons don't cut it. So just to tie this back in with Forza Horizon 5, I think you should just take a break from the game if you're getting bored of it. I personally find watching TV shows and movies to be a nice change of pace whenever I'm tired of gaming. Now I'm still fully in love with the game and looking forward to playing many more hours in it but there is certainly some things that they can improve still. I've yet to try tweaking the cars myself vs just getting a preset from the community.
The racing game doesn't let you play with uncapped frame rates, but you can set the game to run at a locked 20, 30, or 60 frames per second. My gaming desktop, which includes a 3.2GHz Intel i CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 2TB of storage, ran Forza Horizon 5 with ease. The sexy cars and lush environments moved at 60fps, though the game occasionally locked up for a few seconds at a time. Please note that a 20GB patch followed the 100GB game download, so it may take a while before you can first boot Forza Horizon 5.
